Sydney University Graffiti Tunnel

Legal graffiti wall in Camperdown, Australia

A tunnel that runs between manning and holme buildings. Ceiling runs for the most part with an opening in the middle, artificially lit. Walls are a bit over 2m tall and run for a decent stretch, some stairs. Anything can be put up as long as it isn't "offensive". Best way to get there is to walk from Redfern station or get a bus up city road and walk there. Just ask any of the students for directions to the graffiti tunnel, if they don't know where it is ask them where manning or holme is. No chance of being hassled, police officers and university security have walked by and the most I've been told is "try not to paint on the door handles".

its not like that. It really depends on when you do it iand sometime they kick you out if you are not one of the students. I wouldnt recommend the place. JOTA

NAH ITS SWEET TO PAINT WENT AND DID A PIECE TODAY WITH COUPLE OF THE STUDENTS AND GUARDS WATHCING DEALS KOC

The guards will kick you out unless you can present your student ID. I've been kicked out before. But prior to 2008 it used to be open to the public, what a shame.

IT IS 100% TRUE THAT IT IS A WALL RESERVED FOR THE STUDENTS OF SYDNEY UNI. I KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE FRIENDS THAT GO THERE AND HAVE BEEN KICKED MULTIPLE TIMES FOR NOT HAVING A SYDNEY STUDENT ID. HOWEVER IT'S NOT A PRIORITY FOR THE GUARDS SO THEY ARE PRETTY LAX ABOUT YOU PAINTING THERE. ME AND A FRIEND WERE THERE FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE ANY SECURITY CAME AND ONCE THEY DID THEY ASKED HOW MUCH MORE WE HAD TO DO AND SAID THEY'D GIVE US 10 MINUTES TO FINISH OFF OUR PEICES. -¿QUE?

this place is shit i just fukin kicked out of there couldnt even finish hokes lkh bck

just a response to people that r trying to find some legal walls. apart from sydney uni, there is another legal wall called May lane. it is in st.peteres, near newtown. 100% legal i've painted there and no one has said anything or told me to leave. also get ur graff supplies at 567 king. it is in king street newtown. number 567.

NOT LEGAL - DON'T BOTHER.

went there today, was a bit disappointed as it is mostly unreadable tagging at the moment, seen it before and it was a lot more big complex pieces, colour and huge detail which really showcased great talent. I've been painting for years and now work as a professional artist doing photo realism and specializing in scenes showing the graffiti and culture that goes with it, But seen this tunnel looking more like the product of talented graffiti artists than bored scribblers

*shrugs* never had anyone check ID there, or seen anyone have their id checked, regardless of appearance or age. Didn't realise being a student was a requirement. If you don't want to be hassled by bored security guards, just go after university hours.

I always go to the tunnel, I'm 13 and the security guards are fine with you doing graffiti as long as it isn't on the doors and stuff. Awesome

yeah this is still here, it's legal to paint during all hours of the weekend without any hassle from security or anyone.

I've been there once before and I got kicked out and escorted off uni property by security haha, they told me only students are allowed even though on their website it says anyone can. weird.

On week days you can only paint there after 7pm and anytime at the weekend . I've painted there multiple times a week for the last few months with no bother. Just don't expect your piece to last longer than ten minutes as the toys take out everything without mercy.

Never had any hassles at This wall nice wall To paint BRING BUFF zefr

Legal and open to public, anyone can paint in this tunnel

Preferably only for USYD students, using any type of spray paint is only permitted outside of business hours (using acrylic paint with a brush can be used anytime)

I saw a guy spray painting on a Saturday morning so I assume its alright to paint on weekends

Painted here a few times never had problems

Yeah, this is as safe as it gets. Best not to paint during school hours as it's used be heaps of students (its a tunnel/shortcut to classes I guess,) and you may come across a complaint/ security guard. Don't except your piece to last long so don't bother with decent cans. - Painted here a few times.

security went past, didn’t even look at night. in day be careful of classes nearby, teachers may have a problem & call security/yell at you themselves

Talked to some tour guides today, still fine to paint as long as it's before 9 in the morning or after 5pm. Otherwise you're not allowed to because of the fumes in the tunnel.

good spot don’t bother with proper pieces shit gets covered ASAP, didn’t have any issues with seccys had students just watching

Went and did a piece today mad spot and really chill vibe to kick back and have a good time! Don’t paint between 7am and 7pm but other than that it was good. It has been pouring rain for 2 days but walks dry but floor soaked other than that I highly recommend to practice

100% legal no permits required, went for a paint here the other day had a pleasant chat with some of the staff, security and students while I was working. Just come between 7-7 at night and leave the door handles alone. Common sense also makes me want to ask others to stop painting the lights as the lighting isn't the greatest and covering them isn't helping.

Just don’t paint during busy times - mostly weekdays - and you’ll be fine.

Is this wall still safe to paint?
